Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation or augmentation mammoplasty is a procedure that has now been performed millions of times, which is either required for medical reasons, for example, following breast cancer surgery, or simply for aesthetic reasons.

Breast augmentation with the aid of silicone implants is by far the most common procedure.

In case of such an operation, which is mostly carried out under general anaesthesia, the breast tissue is raised through a discrete incision in the skin and a pouch is formed, in which the breast implant is inserted. The cosmetic surgeon decides on where the incision will be made and whether the implant will be placed under the breast muscle or under the mammary gland above the breast muscle based on the circumstances.

One week of complete rest is necessary after breast augmentation. The operated area will be swollen for 10 to 14 days and it may be uncomfortable. Sport and physical exercise should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.

Breast augmentation by injection with the body’s own fat or so-called fillers are alternatives to implants. All common methods are offered by the specialists at the Wiener Privatklinik. Patients should consult a physician they can trust about recommended methods on a case-by-case basis and the associated risks.
