Breast conserving surgery

Breast conserving surgery

The primary objective of breast cancer surgery is always the safe and complete removal of the tumour. This does not necessarily mean the complete removal of the breast: BCT, breast conserving therapy is possible in around 60 to 70 percent of breast cancer cases. In such cases, breast conserving surgery is increasingly performed together with oncoplastic reconstruction, which is the reconstruction of an aesthetically satisfying condition through the process of cosmetic surgery. Therefore, breast conserving surgery and oncoplastic reconstruction in one procedure is recommended, as the radiation therapy following the operation would affect the prospects of success for the later reconstruction of the breast through cosmetic surgery.
