According to § 17a Vienna Hospital Law the legal entity of the hospital is obliged to inform patients on their rights in written form; these legal rights are:
Right to considerate treatment, adequate protection of privacy, confidentiality, professional treatment and care with as little pain as possible, education and comprehensive information about treatment options and risks, right to active participation in decision-making processes concerning their state of health, consent to treatment or refusal of treatment, access to the medical history, production of a copy of the medical history against reimbursement of costs, right of the patient or a trusted person to receive medical information from a doctor authorized to practice independently in the most comprehensible and gentle manner possible, right to sufficient opportunities for visits and contact with the outside world, right to contact persons of trust even outside visiting hours in the event of a sustained deterioration in the patient’s state of health, right of children admitted for inpatient care to hospital rooms that are as child-friendly as possible, right to religious care and psychological support, right to early release, right to receive a patient letter; right to submit suggestions and complaints, right to end-of-life care, right to die with dignity and contact with persons of trust.
