Sports medicine and sports surgery

The Competence Center for Sports Medicine and Trauma Surgery at the Vienna Private Clinic offers therapy and rehabilitation for sports and accident injuries of all types and severity. In particular, knee injuries, cruciate ligament revisions and shoulder injuries are treated. To ensure first-class care, our renowned sports physicians and surgeons work hand in hand; minimally invasive surgery is favoured for operations. The aim is always to maintain or restore physical fitness and a quick return to sport.

Sports medicine expertise at the highest level

Sports physicians not only treat injuries, but also prevent them. Sport and fitness are good for your health, but can harbour risks without professional supervision.

Recreational athletes in particular underestimate the fact that not every sport is suitable for every stage of life. To prevent injuries, fitness levels are checked and health risks are ruled out as part of a sports medical examination before starting a sporting activity. Ambitious athletes should also have regular examinations in order to achieve their goals safely. In the long term, regular sports medical examinations serve to ensure sustainable health and performance optimisation – regardless of whether you are an amateur or professional athlete. The creation of training and nutrition plans rounds off the Vienna Private Clinic’s sports services.

The sports medicine examination programme at the Vienna Private Clinic includes

  • Medical history: Determining possible contraindications for certain sports
  • Clinical examination: Focus on joints, spine and muscles to assess resilience and function
  • Laboratory examination, resting ECG and pulmonary function test: Detection of possible health risks
  • Ergometry stress test: Determination of the current fitness level and creation of a customised training plan.

“My many years of experience in the field of arthroscopic surgery ensure you receive the best possible care in the diagnosis, treatment and surgery of your orthopaedic complaints.”

Minimally invasive surgery: gentle procedures with rapid recovery

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) enables surgical procedures to be carried out with very small incisions, which reduces pain and shortens recovery times. This technique has become established in almost all surgical fields – especially in accident and sports medicine.

A key area is arthroscopy, which enables minimally invasive examination and treatment of joints. The advantages are obvious: both professional and amateur athletes benefit from faster mobilisation, less post-operative discomfort and often outpatient treatment instead of long stays in hospital.

Sportrehabilitation

The path back to full mobility after a sports injury depends on various factors such as the type of injury, severity of the procedure, general condition, individual motivation and discipline as well as the quality of physiotherapy.

Various measures are available to restore mobility and freedom from pain, including sports physiotherapy, endurance training to improve general performance, strength training to strengthen the musculoskeletal system, coordination training and proprioceptive training. Trigger point therapy, vibration therapy, manual therapy and movement training are also used.
