Treatment of cancer has undergone radical changes during the very recent years shifting from attempts to stop uncontrolled cell growth by mainly chemotherapy to precision medicine using molecularly targeted compounds aiming at very specific and dysregulated intracellular mechanisms thus resulting in ameliorated outcomes in the treatment of various cancers.
In addition, the introduction of immunotherapies has introduced the concept to „biologically“ control cancer growth by unchaining the function of otherwise paralyzed immune mechanisms thus enabling the body’s own potential to destroy cancer.
